We don't need to know everything about you.
We need enough information to build a useful, accurate map. Here's what we collect, what people can see, and what stays private.
What you see on the map
For approved makers, we may show the business name, city, state, country, business type, size, ownership type, description, website, Instagram, and a location on the map.
That location only gets as specific as the maker allows. If someone is baking bagels out of their house, we're not asking them to put their home address on the internet. Cottage and home-based bakers are shown at the city level by default.
What stays private
If you submit a business, we may ask for things like a street address, postal code, name, and email so we can verify the listing. That information isn't automatically shown on the public map or profile.
We may store exact coordinates privately to help verify a location. They aren't published unless the maker specifically chooses an exact public pin and the business isn't a cottage bakery.
Getting on the map
Submitting a maker doesn't automatically put them on the map. Whether you submit your own business or nominate somebody else, we review the information first and verify that the maker meets the project's definition of independent.
Business information submitted to the project may be displayed publicly and used to maintain the map, directory, research, resources, and other work connected to The Independent Bagel Project.
We're trying to keep this simple, useful, and transparent. This page explains how the project handles information, but it isn't legal advice.
You don't need an account to use the map.
You can search the map and look at maker profiles without creating an account. We don't need your location to do it, and there are no ratings, reviews, or social feeds following you around.
